We
have approximately 250 members, two full-time staff people, many committees and numerous active
volunteers.
Who
runs the Chamber?
A
Board of Directors of 19 business men and women, representing
all segments of the economy. Some serve three-year elected
terms, some one-year appointed terms. The
board of directors hires a full-time president to coordinate the
overall operations of the Chamber.
What Does It Do?
The variety of a Chamber's activities is
virtually unlimited, depending on the community needs and
desires and the ability of the Chamber to meet those needs. Its
overall mission of community development is determined by the
organization's program - its goals or its Program of Work.
How Does It Work?
Action groups, called committees, are the
backbone of the Chamber. They are the units that accomplish the
organization's goals and objectives. The needs of the community
and policies of the Chamber determine the kinds and number of
required action groups.
Who Are Its Members?
Any firm or individual sharing an
interest
in community improvement is eligible for membership. Eligibility
requirements are usually spelled out in the organizations
bylaws. Fees, subscription rates or dues are usually determined
by the Board of Directors depending on budgetary needs.
Who Pays For It?
Financed on a voluntary basis, the
organization's expenses are apportioned among its members,
consisting of firms and individuals. Chamber membership is an
investment in the present and future of the individual's and
community's welfare.
